Payments and Credit Association Names Scott Whalen Executive of the Year

New York, NY, January 25, 2024 – The Payments and Credit Association announced today that it has named Scott Whalen, Managing Director and Head of Credit Management at Silicon Valley Bank, as its 2024 Executive of the Year. This prestigious annual award recognizes executives who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in the payments and credit industry.

Scott has over 20 years of experience in portfolio management, credit analysis, and investment strategy. At Silicon Valley Bank, Scott oversees a $1.2 billion credit portfolio for high-growth technology and life sciences companies. Under his leadership, Scott’s team has exceeded industry standards, achieving loss rates 50% below average while increasing productivity by 35%.

“Scott has an impressive record of success in managing credit risk for some of today’s most innovative companies while also developing high-performing teams,” said Jane Smith, Communications Director of the Payments and Credit Association. “His results-driven strategies and collaborative leadership style make him extremely deserving of this award.”

Previously, as Head of Portfolio Management at PPMG, Scott created investment selection criteria and credit management frameworks that increased captive assets under management by 50%. At PPMG, he negotiated over $249 million in direct loan investments while implementing solutions that decreased non-performing loans by 30%.

“We are delighted to recognize Scott’s significant contributions to the growth of the technology and entrepreneurial ecosystems,” Smith added. “The Payments and Credit Association is proud to name him our Executive of the Year.”

The Executive of the Year award will be presented to Scott Whalen at the Association’s Annual Conference in June. As part of the recognition, Scott will be profiled in the next issue of Payments & Credit magazine.
